3 Ideas I can't stop thinking about
You ever have those sentences or questions that just dance around in your mind, repeating themselves all day long?
Either you read it somewhere or someone said it… and you just can’t let them go.
I don’t know if you ever get experience that, but it happens ALL the time for me.
Anyway. Wanted to share 3 that are currently stuck in my head.
But first, a quick word from today’s sponsor:

1/ You can just do things
This idea, I’m sure, has been around for a while now.
But it first snuck its way into the folds of my brain after SpaceX pulled a Mr. Miyagi and caught its own rocket ship like it was a fly in two chopsticks.

Since then, I’ve seen this idea everywhere. And I mean, everywhere.
“You can just do stuff” is the most important advice for your 20s

“You can just do stuff” sometimes feels like cursed knowledge
I could just start a poetry group. I could learn coding & make games. I could make a charity & find a party w rich ppl & ask every one of them to donate $10k until one says yes. I could take a nap in the afternoon

It’s become a meme on Twitter/X.
But like any meme, there’s a kernel of truth to it.
Whenever you feel resistance or friction, ask yourself, “Is there actually an obstacle, or is this a limiting belief imposed on me by people who previously didn’t think it was possible?”
Does that mean everything you do will immediately be successful?
No, of course not.
I don't see "you can just do things" as a guarantee you will succeed. It just means you are allowed to try.
Go for it. Take the risk. Shoot the shot. Start the project. Put yourself in situations where you don't belong. Sometimes you have to trade security for growth.
2/ What did you get done this week?
Another line that Elon Musk is infamous for.
Elon was dissatisfied with the way Twitter was being run. The company was slow, bloated, and didn’t prioritize its users.
So what did he do? He bought Twitter, laid off 80% of the company, and proceeded to turn it around.

I expect this to change to "What did you get done this week?!" pretty soon.

Love him or hate him, Elon Musk is a master of thinking big. He’s juggling 12 kids, running multiple billion-dollar companies, and working to colonize Mars.
But I think the question, “What did you get done this week?” also brings up an important point.
And that is: It’s not about how hard you work, it’s about what you got done.
Too many people focus on their inputs instead of their outputs.
Just because something took you longer doesn’t make it more valuable.
Ask yourself this question at the end of every week.
3/ Being top of mind is an incredible way to attract opportunities.
Alright, last idea.
I recently referred a friend 2 clients simply because we were texting the week before.
That’s not to say he isn’t great at what he does, but he was the first person (out of many) to pop into my mind when someone asked for a done-for-you newsletter agency.
That’s also another reason why sharing your ideas online is so powerful.
It makes you top of mind to many people. It’s building trust at scale.
Most people think it’s cringy to start a personal blog, newsletter, podcast—or have an active Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube account.
But what these people don’t realize is that putting yourself out there online is not about becoming the next Charlie D'Amelio. Instead, it’s about engineering serendipity.
Each piece of content you publish is a bat signal for cool opportunities.
So there you have it.
A peak into the mind of Jay Yang.
You can just do things.
What did you get done this week?
How can you stay top of mind for others?
See you next Sunday,
Jay Yang
Ps. This is so beautiful.
Jay’s Finds
Some of the best content I found on the internet this week…
Been diving deep into book writing (which is much different than writing tweets or blog posts). One of the people I’ve been studying is Ryan Holiday.
I’ve learned more about finance from this video than my entire semester of college so far.
I’m about ¼ of the way through this blog post on writing better. I will definitely be revisiting this often these next few months.

I'm making a list of the maxims that are repeated on the podcast
Here's what I have so far
Which ones am I missing?
1. Excellence is the capacity to take pain.
2. Actions express priority.
3. Bad boys move in silence.
4. Belief comes before ability.… x.com/i/web/status/1…

I’m a sucker for a good maxim.
business school should be a year of v0, cursor, replit, claude prompting, design 101, finance 101, how to find startup ideas and 3 years of how to hack distribution.
you can't graduate unless one of your products gets 100 customers and you go viral.
i'm sorry.
