My SECRET to building a powerful personal brand
The 3 Pillars of Powerful Positioning
Read time = 2 min
These past few weeks I've been spending less time on Twitter...
...And more time reading books.
Why?
Well, for two reasons:
I'm at the stage in my journey where most of the content on Twitter (which is geared toward beginners) doesn't really apply to me anymore.
Recently, Twitter's been feeling like an echo chamber. And that's not a healthy recipe for a clear mind.
It also led me to ask myself this question:
"If everyone's starting to sound the same... what makes ME different?"
If you suddenly stopped writing online, would people miss you?
Yes? Then you’re on your way to a powerful personal brand.
No? Maybe it’s time to reevaluate the way you grow your audience.
Don’t optimize for growth, optimize for impact.

So that's what we're going to discuss today.
How to build a brand that not just attracts followers, but creates die-hard loyal fans.
Ya ready? Let's do this.
The 3 Pillars of Powerful Positioning
Your story
Your values
Your mission
Your Story
Your story is the most powerful asset you have as a creator.
If you have a compelling story from the past, share it.If you don’t, build it in public.
Someone who does this well is Kieran Drew.
Kieran‘s dream job was to be a dentist.
And when he got that job, he was elated.
Until he realized… it wasn’t what he actually wanted.
Having a job didn’t give him freedom.
So he committed to writing online to build leverage and achieve digital freedom.
Now, he helps others achieve digital freedom too.
In his content, he constantly contrasts his past self with his current self.
When I was a dentist I came close to buying a Jaguar.
I used to sit in rush hour and see nice cars and think 'I work hard, I deserve one of those too'. Then I realised it's not the car that's important. It's escaping rush hour altogether.
Invest in freedom, not possessions.

Do you see how powerful this is?
• I used to think X, now I think Y.• I used to feel X, now I feel Y.• I used to be X, now I am Y.
Change creates a powerful story arc.
Your Values
Values are your guiding principles.
They help you judge what’s important in your life.
When you share your values, you attract those who share the same values.
But there’s one thing even more important than sharing what you stand for…
Can you guess what it is?
That’s right... it’s sharing what you stand against.
Someone who does this well is George Ten.
George constantly pits himself against the status quo.
And when you do that the right way?
You create an industry of one.
Copywriting is NOT writing.
Copywriting is understanding human psychology.
• Emotions
• Biases
• Beliefs
• Triggers
• Objections
• Desires
• Problems
• ThinkingI’m fact…
I wouldn’t even call it copyWRITING.I’d call it copyTHINKING.
Wouldn’t you agree?— George Ten (@GrammarHippy)

• What do you stand for?• What do you stand against?• Who would your audience say you are?
Your Mission
Your mission is your vehicle for self-improvement.
It's why you're spending time learning, building, and doing.
Sharing your mission allows others to join and support your mission.
A great example of this is Danny Miranda.
Danny's mission is "Building the Danny Miranda podcast to 1M plays/month."
Then when he shares his story, it allows people to root and cheer for him.
BIG NEWS:
Andy Frisella is coming on the podcast.

• What does your ideal life look like?• What does you ideal day look like?• Why are you doing all of this work?
Who are you? → Your values
What are you building? → Your mission
Why should people care? → Your story
If you nail one, you'll stand out.
If you nail two, you'll attract your tribe.
If you nail all three, you'll build a cult-like following.
The 7 Hour Rule
The 7 Hour Rule from Daniel Priestley states, “someone must spend at least 7 hours with your brand to become a lifetime fan.”
This can be through writing (like this newsletter), audio (like podcasts), or video (like YouTube).
Early on your journey, focus on gaining experience and nailing your pillars.
As you progress, focus on building a “binge bank” that allows people to get lost in your content.
Someone who does this well is Dan Koe.
If you want to learn from Dan, you can dive into his concepts in multiple ways.
Audio → PodcastVideo → YouTubeWritten → Newsletter
Then, when he has an offer to promote...
He doesn't have to hard sell it.
He simply says, "Whenever you're ready, here's how I can help you."
And those who are ready (which a lot of people are after binging 7 hours of Dan's content) will want to continue their relationship with Dan.
Build your binge bank.
To recap:1. Share your story2. Share your values3. Share your mission4. Build your binge bank
