Are you suffering from Shiny Object Syndrome?
If you try to do everything, you end up accomplishing nothing
It’s been 3 years since I started my entrepreneurship journey, but I’ve only just begun to appreciate the power of focus.
As the common saying goes, “If you try to chase two rabbits, you won’t catch either of them.”
For the longest time, I hopped around trying different business models—each time hoping it would be the breakthrough I needed.
I tried faceless YouTube channels, Instagram theme pages, a clothing brand, heck… I even looked into real estate.
But alas, none of those ventures took off. Even to this day, I struggle not to drop everything and start a lifestyle YouTube channel 😅
If I went to see a doctor for my condition, they’d say I have a severe case of ‘shiny object syndrome’.
What’s helped me manage my squirrel-like attention span is thinking about my journey in phases.
For example, while I think starting a YouTube channel and writing a book are super cool (and they’re definitely things I want to do in the future)—I’m saving those for phase 4 or 5.
By mapping out my journey in phases, I can experience the pleasure of scheming without actually getting off track.
Right now, my phase 1 goal is to hit $25k/mo in revenue for my service business by the end of 2025.
Which means everything else that I want to do:
Book
Real estate
Flagship course
Paid community
YouTube channel
…gets kicked down the road to a later phase.
Here’s the harsh truth:
If you try to do everything all at once, you’ll end up accomplishing nothing at all.
Most people (myself included) assume that because they’re busy working all the time, then they must be making progress.
But it doesn’t matter how hard you work if you’re working on things in the wrong order.
Trying to write a book without having any life experiences is like a 6th grader trying out for an NBA team.
Instead, ask yourself:
What phase am I on in my journey?
What do I need to learn, practice, and do to close the gap between where I am now and where I want to go?
Am I better off doing this thing now or in a later phase?
Focus isn’t about doing the most things. It’s about doing the right things in the right order.
See you next Sunday,

Sometimes I think the new rich is peace.
I see too many who have everything except that.

Most people are deeply afraid of who they really are.
The things they really want,
The level of ambition they truly have.
But if you can tap into that - you are a freight train that is very, very hard to stop.— Dr. Julie Gurner (@drgurner)

You become physically and mentally weak when your life is too comfortable. Growth comes with pain. If you don't push your limits every day, you accumulate anxiety, anger, frustration. You were never meant to settle down. You are meant to become who you didn't know you could be.

Some good career advice I received when I was younger:
Find the 3 to 5 people you want to model your career after. Look at what roles they have held. Work backwards and follow that path
Working backwards is much more insightful than thinking forward when career planning
